My boyfriend took me to this small hole in the wall place he found awhile ago! Only a few stalls in the front, but street parking in the area.
We ordered the Beef Sukiyaki with white rice (~$19). It was a hugeeee size, perfect for 2 people! I loved the addition of udon noodles along with the other noodles. There was definitely a plentiful amount of meat, and while I would have liked a TAD more vegetables, still a pretty generous portion of food. The broth was delicious and not too salty and the egg was perfect and not over cooked!
Overall, service was pretty fast and definitely a great stop for a low key dinner that won't disappoint! Will definitely be back. -

Hopefully we can always enjoy this typical old school Japanese restaurant! I, for one, really miss Hata Restaurant on King. From the casual seating and photos of menu selections posted on the walls to the wonderful flavors and generous portions, this place takes us back to the good old days. The area has quite a few metered spaces and even if we have to walk a bit from that space we find up the street, boy, we are happy to do so to be welcomed by the friendly servers: "irasshaimase"!

Growing up in Liliha, my mom would always bring us here to eat the chicken on the sizzling plate. I haven't been here in years but I recently came here for a lunch with my family.
Parking can be a little difficult because they only have about 5 stalls right in front but we were able to find street parking. The restaurant isn't too big but they do have a side room that can hold about 30-40 people. Our orders were taken quickly and the food came pretty fast. I ordered the combination plate with tonkatsu and shrimp tempura. The tonkatsu was very tasty and the shrimp tempura comes with two vegetable tempura too. The tempura batter is very light and crispy. For $16, the combination meal for lunch is well worth it.
Whenever I am in the area, this is definitely the place to get the best japanese teishoku. -

I often drove past this place and wondered whether it would be a good place to try. We finally stopped here for the first time for an early dinner and was not disappointed. The restaurant parking lot is very small so we found street parking. When we entered the restaurant it seemed larger than it looked. The servers were very friendly and attentive. We ordered the misoyaki butterfish and shrimp tempura and it was delicious . I love butterfish for one and I love tempura so I was very pleased with my dinner. We skipped the dessert menu but did have a craving for some Mochi ice cream. So we walked over to the nearby Foodland and got some to eat on the way home. What a nice way to end our work week. Thumbs up for sure.

Ahhh my little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant that's five minutes from my house! A true gem in the Liliha neighborhood! Sure parking is limited to four stalls in front the restaurant but there's a ton of parking on both sides of Liliha Street. One stop here and you'll find that even with the limited parking this place is rarely not full inside.
I haven't had a meal yet that I didn't truly enjoy. The Chicken Tofu, Beef Sukiyaki, and misoyaki butterfish are some of my favorites. Two people could easily split the chicken tofu and beef sukiyaki. Or just be like me and enjoy a the whole thing by yourself!
Service is always VERY pleasant! The girls will help you if you're unsure and always offer more hot tea and rice for your meal.
Yagura is one of the last old time Japanese food gems left in Honolulu. Definitely a great hole in the wall that had been around forever and I hope never goes away!
